The Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald District Office relies on maximum IT security to protect critical citizen and social data. In view of increasing cyber threats, the authority has decided to make a strategic change. With Managed Extended Detection and Response (MXDR) from G DATA CyberDefense, the district office protects its more than 2.000 clients and servers around the clock.
Public administrations are increasingly becoming the target of cybercriminals. In order to protect themselves as effectively and sustainably as possible against cyberattacks, those responsible at the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district office have systematically taken security to a new level. The authority opted for a Managed Extended Detection and Response (MXDR) solution from G DATA CyberDefense. This is a managed service that detects, blocks, analyzes, and responds to attacks around the clock – even outside of traditional office hours.

These included 24/7 monitoring and response to protect all clients and servers, even in the evenings and on weekends. In addition, attacks were to be immediately contained by automated defense mechanisms. Another requirement was that attack attempts and responses should be easily traceable. The preference was for a European provider that ensures compliance with the GDPR and meets the requirements of the BSI basic protection. Since the district administration office was already using the virus protection solution from G DATA CyberDefense, the Bochum-based IT security company was the first point of contact in the search. After a successful proof of concept, the choice fell on G DATA 365 | MXDR.

About the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald District OfficeThe district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, with a population of around 270.000, is located in the southwestern part of Baden-Württemberg. The district office is responsible for a wide range of tasks in its function as a municipal district authority and lower state administrative authority. These range from waste management, social and youth welfare, road construction and building law, health and environmental protection to education and immigration. Behind all these services is a complex IT infrastructure that is operated on-premises: two in-house data centers in Freiburg, over 2.000 clients, and numerous specialist applications that enable citizens to access digital services. A total of 70 employees take care of all IT matters, in particular the digitization of the administration, but only five focus on IT security and compliance.
