This press release has:
Inspired by Bochum’s spring clean-up campaign, twelve employees from G DATA CyberDefense organised their own autumn clean-up for the first time. Setting off from the campus on Königsallee, the teams headed out onto their assigned routes in the surrounding area. As well as plastic packaging, they also found some unusual items, such as a parasol stand and a VW logo.

On Sunday, 4 October 2026, USB Bochum provided G DATA staff with three hours’ worth of cleaning equipment, including gloves, bin bags and litter pickers. In sunny weather, the staff once again helped to keep the city clean. Among the items found were a soft toy, footballs, a parasol stand, a VW logo, plastic bags, packaging, cigarette ends, takeaway cups, soft drinks and bottles.

“We’re from Bochum. And for us, our connection to this city goes beyond simply having our company headquarters here. When it comes to the litter-picking campaign, we don’t just talk about responsibility – we roll up our sleeves and get stuck in ourselves. I’m particularly pleased that so many colleagues take part year after year. Because social commitment isn’t shown through fine words, but by actually doing something”, says Andreas Lüning, co-founder and member of the board at G DATA CyberDefense.

Since 2022, staff at G DATA have been regularly discussing environmental and sustainability issues within the ‘Team Planet’ working group and promoting environmentally conscious behaviour within the company. The aim is to tackle small projects together that not only make the company even more sustainable, but also raise colleagues’ awareness of environmentally conscious behaviour. Every year, they take part in the city clean-up and encourage others to join in.

Stadtputz relies on the involvement of private individuals and organisations
Since April 2019, the USB has been organising city clean-up campaigns. Over the past few years, these joint litter-picking initiatives have become an integral part of the city’s commitment to a litter-free city. Anyone interested – whether businesses, individuals or organisations – can take part, even outside of the designated campaign days. Rubbish bags, litter pickers and high-visibility vests are provided, and the rubbish is collected by the USB. Registration is open all year round: https://www.usb-bochum.de/info/stadtputz/
